Run, eat, drink- all for good causes this weekend

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - From horse shows and zebras to beer and bacon, there’s a lot going on on the Coast this weekend.

If you’re still looking for weekend plans, you’re in the right place. Here’s a few fun events you might consider adding to your itinerary.

25th Annual Gulf Coast Winter Classics

The Winter Classics is galloping through the Harrison County Fairgrounds every day this weekend. It’s a two-month long horse show that happens right here in South Mississippi every year.

The show features both amateur and professional riders- and some gorgeous horses!

This year’s classics started February 15, but the show runs all the way until March 26, so you still have lots of time to check it out.

Stop by any day this weekend (for free!) from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Visit their website for a full schedule and other information.

6th Annual Zebra Run

Now... moving from horses to zebras. The annual Zebra Run, happening March 4, is hosted by the United MSD Foundation. Its goal is to raise awareness and funding for those living with rare diseases, like Multiple Sulfatase Deficiency (MSD).

MSD is an extremely rare disease affecting children, in which they lose motor skills, speech and cognitive abilities, inability to swallow, blindness and ultimately death, usually before the preteen years. Because zebras are the mascot of the rare disease community, the entire race is zebra-themed.

You can be a part of the good cause by coming out to run along Front Beach in Ocean Springs Saturday at 8 a.m.

Register for $35 per runner at curemsd.org/zebrarun.

2023 Gulf Coast Beer & Bacon Festival

This fest sound like the perfect place to stop by for a treat after the Zebra Run.

The event is hosted by Mississippi Heroes, a Coast-based non-profit with the goal of celebrating every day family and professional caregivers. All the proceeds from the ticket go to the organization- but there’s a lot in it for you, too!

Walk through Hollywood Warehouse in Gulfport through over 40 breweries and restaurants serving up- you guessed it- beer and bacon (...and chocolate. Can it get any better than this?).

General admission is from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person, and you can grab yours at gcbeerbaconfest.com.

Hopefully you have some new ideas for ways to spice up your Gulf Coast Weekend. Make sure to head over to our calendar for a full list of events and happenings on the Coast.
