Savory Roots in Pass Christian, Miss. is most notably known for their Beer BBQ Shrimp & Grits – smoked mushrooms, bacon and shrimp in a beer bbq sauce with a creole tomato glaze. And yes, it’s out of this world. But in reality, there’s no way to go wrong with anything that comes out of the Savory Roots kitchen. From the perfectly fried chicken and waffle sandwich to the savory 12-ounce bone-in pork chop with caramelized sweet potatoes and roasted brussels sprouts, it just depends on what your flavor is. Every good meal deserves dessert and the desserts at Savory Roots are both beautiful and delicious. WLOX Gulf Coast Weekend sat down with owner, Jessica Calvert to here inspiration in creating the cozy little restaurant, Savory Roots.
Tonight-Dough Cake: caramel cake with cookie crumbs, homemade cookie dough, a peanut butter frosting topped with homemade cake balls.
Beer BBQ Shrimp & Grits: smoked mushrooms, bacon and shrimp in a beer bbq sauce with a creole tomato glaze.
Pork Chop: 12-ounce bone-in pork chop with caramelized sweet potatoes and roasted brussels sprouts.
Pan Seared Trout: garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed squash and zucchini and a creole meuniere sauce.
Fried Chicken & Waffles Sandwich: crispy buttermilk fried chicken breast topped with lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese and a maple sriracha mayo on two Belgium waffles with homemade potato chips.
