GAUTIER, Miss. (WLOX) - The Mississippi Songwriters Performing Arts Center, to be located just down the road from The Sound Amphitheater, is one step closer to construction.

The $6,212,000 contract will cover the center’s recording studio, equipment, and even landscaping.

“This marks a major milestone in bringing this exciting project to life. The new center will celebrate Mississippi’s deep musical roots and serve as a catalyst for cultural enrichment and economic development in Gautier,” the city said in a Facebook post.

The Mississippi Songwriters Performing Arts Center will be a 10,000-square-foot, two-story building on the old Singing River Mall lot. The building is one phase of a larger Gautier Town Center plan.

The building will include the Mississippi Songwriters Alliance Hall of Fame, which houses the history of dozens of songwriting legends from across the state.

The space will also include a fully-functioning music recording studio, indoor and outdoor performing spaces, and classrooms.

“We are excited about the future of music in the state of Mississippi and the future of the Mississippi Songwriters Alliance,” said Mississippi Songwriters Alliance President George Cumbest. “On behalf of MSA, I would like to acknowledge and thank Mayor Casey Vaughan and his staff at the City of Gautier for all their hard work in making this dream become a reality.”

Construction was initially slated to begin in summer 2024 and be completed in winter 2025. According to MSA, construction is now set to begin in the next couple months and should be complete in about a year.
