PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. (WLOX) - One longstanding mansion in Pass Christian started as a residential property but is now a highly booked venue.
The Historic Blue Rose Mansion, located at 120 W Scenic Drive in Pass Christian, is filled with years’ worth of investments.
“It’s one of the oldest remaining historic homes left on the coast since Katrina, built in 1848, and it was a residence when it was built,” said owner Herbert Pursley.
The mansion hosts many events, including wedding receptions, birthdays, and Sunday brunch.

From well-known ownership under Jim Maddox, to operating as a restaurant for many years, it’s no secret the mansion has worn several hats.

“We’ve owned it the longest, believe it or not. We bought it in 1990 and opened up our antique store, restaurant, and gift shop. It was very successful up until Katrina,” said Pursley.
“Then, of course, we had to go to plan B, and we’re on plan C or D or E now because of covid and various things that have happened. But now we’re older and we’re a little bit low-key.”
The mansion has approximately 9,200 square feet of space, with the second floor alone covering 3,200 square feet.
“It’s not small, it’s another home, so you can live up here and work your business downstairs, which I did for years,” said Pursley.

Throughout the mansion, art from all over lines the walls.

“We have a lot of Albrecht Dürer, which is art that was done back in the 1500s. It’s wood cuttings and copper plates, and that’s his biggest collection, and he has over 500 pieces,” said Pursley.
“It’s considered one of the largest collections in the U.S. right now. These are not originals, but these are pieces that were reproduced in the 1700s and 1800s, so they are very special.”
The only time art and other antiques are moved is when specific events call for them to be.
Although thousands of dollars have been poured into this home, Pursley said it has been a worthwhile investment.
