Cupid is from Lafayette, Louisiana, and was just officially declared the “Linedance King of the World” by the state in a proclamation at the State Capitol on May 8. The proclamation read, in part:
Cupid’s accomplishments, sales, music certifications and successful hit songs have proven him as the leader in Linedance music and is now on record in the Louisiana State Capitol record books. Linedance has made leaps and bounds because of Cupid’s work and is being recognized.
“It’s finally starting to happen, where ‘the Linedance King’ is starting to stick. ‘Cause I’ve done it for so long and I’ve advocated for linedance for so long... To see it blossom and be what it is now, it’s just like... it’s awesome to watch,” Cupid said in the GMM interview.
Cupid says the best part of linedance is that it brings everyone together, no matter the background.
“That’s important in music. I feel like unity is just a big part, and we finally have something where we can get everybody together... with no genre, no color, no age... and it’s beautiful.”
Cupid was also part of getting the world record for the largest linedance ever assembled at the time, which took place in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2007 and included 17,000 people.
