WAVELAND, Miss. (WLOX) - Claude Adams is from Luling, Louisiana, and he loves his 1968 Volkswagen Beatle.

He displayed it in Waveland on Wednesday, hoping to wow cruisers on Coleman Avenue.

“It’s all original [and] has the 53-horsepower engine,” Adams said.

Adams isn’t new to Cruisin’ the Coast. He said he’s been coming for the past five years and that the warm atmosphere keeps bringing him back.

“We’ve come out [and] we enjoy the cars as we enjoy the hospitality, the people,” he said. “Everybody’s friendly.”

It was the second year of hot rods and hospitality in Waveland, where you can find old Fords, Cadillacs, Chevys and even a Bentley.

Anthony Sheffield got to show off his 1961 Bentley for the first time.

“It’s literally a piece of artwork you know,” Sheffield said. “This was built from royalty where you had a chauffeur, driving the king and the queen in the back.”

Scott Sutherland owns Rickey’s on Coleman just opened for business.

Sutherland said the crowds already have his restaurant packed, and that he isn’t the only one feeling the impact of Cruisin’.

“From gas stations to the restaurants to the mom and pop,” Sutherland said. “That’s one good thing about this group of people. They don’t just come here and hang out they come and they spend money in the community.”

Texas resident David Crundwell said he has a passion for building cars and that Cruisin’ is an opportunity for people to share that talent with others.

“You really appreciate people appreciating your work,” Crundwell said. “Usually when I go to shows there may not be two or three old cars out you know, different crowd different times I’m old school.”

Crundwell used the event to show off the 1931 Chrysler he built.
