BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - The Cruisin’ the Coast Biloxi Block Party roared to life on Wednesday, drawing car enthusiasts from across the country.

Many cruisers arrived as early as 5 a.m. to secure prime spots, transforming the area into a vibrant display of automotive passion from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event showcased a stunning array of hot rods and classic cars, celebrating craftsmanship and community.

Chuck Turner, who made the short trip from Pascagoula, showcased his meticulously built 1929 Model A two-door sedan at this year’s event. Turner shared the impressive details of his custom creation.

“My car, I love it. It’ll set you back, it’ll scare you,” Turner said, describing the thrill of his vehicle. “I got a 1000-horsepower small block Chevy in it, 671 blower, I built this car from the bottom all the way up, frame and all.”

When asked about the feeling of driving his hard work at Cruisin’ the Coast, Turner responded, “It feels very good, because when you stand back and see something you built, you appreciate it like ‘oh wow, I did that,’ and it feels really good, it really does.”

Turner finds that events like these offer a unique opportunity to connect with fellow enthusiasts and admire their automotive artistry.

“Block parties like this right here, I really love them,” Turner said. “Because you see so many cars out here, and their craftsmanship, everything’s worn off, and everybody takes so much pride in their work, it’s just amazing what you can see.”

Barry Arbour makes the three-hour drive from Louisiana annually, bringing his stunning 1960 Cadillac Coupe Deville to the event. He has been attending with the same car for 26 years, describing the unique experience of driving his classic.

“I’ve had the car 26 years, and I have been here all 26 years with it,” Arbour stated. “If I’m in this car driving, I’m not in a hurry, so you know, you just take your time, it’s got a feel to it, and you just relax and enjoy it.”

Despite its age, with a paint job 17 years old, the car remains immaculate.

Arbour noted, “Yes, you’ve just got to baby it. She has her own bedroom, is what I tell people, but you gotta take care of it, you really do.”

Arbour’s prized Cadillac has garnered significant attention, even appearing on television shows and earning a spot in Street Rodder Magazine’s Top 100 Car of the Year. For him, the car speaks for itself.

“It’s just the car, you know,” Arbour simply put it.

Both Chuck and Barry have been dedicated participants for nearly three decades, emphasizing that it’s not solely about the vehicles but the vibrant community that draws them back each year.

“It’s all about having fun and meeting new people,” Turner said. “We always meet somebody new every single time you come, and you share so many stories.”

Arbour echoed this sentiment: “You meet people from all over the country and we become friends and it’s like a big annual reunion and it just keeps us coming back.”
