BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - A Biloxi artist is taking her creativity to new heights. From small canvas pieces to expansive murals on buildings across South Mississippi, Madeline Andrews has turned the page to a new world of art.
Andrews is the owner of Mad Art Tattoo, which is located inside Raven and Rose Tattoo shop off Popp’s Ferry Road in Biloxi.

She has been tattooing for three years, but before she ever picked up ink and a needle, she mastered her stroke with a paintbrush on any blank canvas in sight.
“I was an artist for a long time. I started off painting and doing murals, and I was even doing makeup a little bit,” said Andrews. “As my passion grew, I fell into tattooing and here I am now, a tattoo artist.”
Andrews said becoming a tattoo artist requires extensive training.

“You start with an apprenticeship, so I went to a local shop and showed them my portfolio, and they decided to take me on as an apprentice. You work under someone for up to nine months, then they will sign off on you. You learn all kinds of things, the safety behind it all, the sanitation, there is so much you have to learn. It’s a lot more of a skill than you would think,” said Andrews.

Andrews specializes in color work and neo-traditional style tattoos.
“I love anything that is whimsical, love tattooing little critters,” said Andrews. “I’ve been doing a lot of sleeves lately, and that’s been fun, starting from a blank canvas and creating something completely new.”
Andrews said one of her favorite things is that the work varies from day to day.
“It’s something new every day and that’s what I enjoy about it,” said Andrews.

Andrews said prices vary depending on what a client wants, and many artists charge differently. However, Andrews charges $150 per hour and usually recommends a consultation first.
