BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - First Baptist Church Biloxi will present its 28th annual Singing Christmas Tree this weekend, featuring new dramatic elements and theatrical components.
The performance is centered around an approximately 30-foot Christmas tree, which comes alive with singers around it and at the top.
Associate Pastor of Worship Todd DuBose said the church begins planning in January for the production.
“This year has a little more of a dramatic flair to it. Has a lot of theatrical elements. Really has some kind of Broadway feel to it,” DuBose said.

Joseph Cumberland will serve as the narrator, playing Judah. The performance tells the story from Creation through the Old Testament prophets, culminating with the birth of Christ.

“You’ll see me all around the stage, kind of introducing and telling the story,” Cumberland said.
The production features soloists and what DuBose described as “cameos from different parts of the scriptures.”

More than 280 people participate in the production, including singers, actors, dancers, and musicians.

The performance starts at 7 p.m. on Friday and at 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Doors open one hour beforehand to accommodate the large crowds.
The Singing Christmas Tree is located in the Worship Center at the church at 1560 Popps Ferry Road.
DuBose said the event serves as both a community gift and a ministry opportunity. The church often sees visitors who are looking for fellowship and exposure to the gospel message.
