GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - The Gulf Coast Kwanzaa Coalition will host its 33rd annual Kwanzaa Celebration at the Good Deeds Community Center in Gulfport at 6 p.m. Monday.
The group will hold the celebration to honor Kwanzaa principles and strengthen the community.
During past celebrations, people honored the foundation of Kwanzaa, the seven core principles, and African American culture, with state and local leaders delivering messages.
The evening will be dedicated to Ujamaa, meaning “cooperative economics,” along with unity, shared responsibility, and supporting the community through collective effort.
Kwanzaa is observed over seven days, starting December 26 and ending January 1.
