BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (WLOX) - The sixth annual Oyster Drop at 200 North Beach Restaurant and Bar in Bay St. Louis will take place Wednesday night as part of the New Year’s Eve festivities.
The event has grown significantly since its 2019 debut, according to Leslie Goodman, general manager of 200 North Beach Restaurant and Bar.
The first Oyster Drop attracted a few hundred participants, but organizers expect up to 4,000 people this year.
“I get so excited,” Goodman said.
Beach Boulevard will be closed for the celebration, with live music beginning at 6 p.m. A DJ will start the entertainment, followed by Category 6 at 7:30 p.m. The Chee Weez will then perform before the fireworks show at midnight.

Local artist Steve Barney designed the oyster centerpiece for the inaugural event. Joel Geiger from Lewis Geiger Designs repainted it this year.
The oyster was originally positioned on the theater steps and operated by hand crank. It is now permanently mounted on the restaurant roof with automatic operation and remains in place year-round.

“We put a lot of work into this; we start working at least six months in advance,” Goodman said.
Goodman said the celebration remains free to the public due to sponsor support and city backing.
“All of these people who started this event in 2019 that have continued to support it and the city of Bay St. Louis gives us such tremendous support,” Goodman said.

The event will feature a VIP party upstairs and commemorative t-shirts for sale.

This marks the first year organizers will sell Oyster Drop merchandise, with a tent positioned in front of the theater.
The Oyster Drop has become a tradition for many who spend the evening along the waterfront. Several thousand out-of-town visitors are expected to attend the celebration.
