MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Graceland kicked off a series of events Wednesday, marking the week-long birthday celebration of the King of Rock ‘N’ Roll.
Action News 5 got a sneak peek at several new exhibits opening Thursday on what would’ve been Elvis Presley’s 91st birthday. The exhibition honors the 70th anniversary of 1956, which was a landmark year in Elvis’ life and career.
“We are opening two new exhibitions here at Graceland,” said Angie Marchese, vice president of Archives and Exhibits at Graceland. “One of them is a look back at 1956, it’s been 70 years since Elvis recorded his first album that had his first gold record on RCA. But the biggest exhibition we’re opening is EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert. And it is highlighted by a movie that is coming out in February by Baz Luhrmann, also of the same title, EPiC.”
Elvis’ birthday proclamation ceremony will be held at 8:30 Thursday morning on the front lawn of Graceland. For a full list of events between now and Sunday, click here.
