BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - Events are scheduled across the Coast to celebrate before and on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is Monday, January 19 this year.
The holiday is observed on the third Monday of every January, which always falls near Dr. King’s birthday, January 15.

Friday, January 16
- BILOXI: Gospel Extravaganza at St. Paul United Methodist Church (696 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard), 7 p.m., part of MLK Coastwide Celebration
- WIGGINS: Annual Dr. MLK, Jr. Celebration Service, 7 p.m. at New Welcome Hill Baptist Church (709 Central Avenue)
Saturday, January 17
- BILOXI: Mental Health Luncheon, presented by Right Track Medical Group, 12 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church (696 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard), part of MLK Coastwide Celebration
- WIGGINS: Annual Dr. MLK, Jr. Stone County Parade, 1 p.m., line-up begins at noon at the Stone County Courthouse
- “Businesses, Organizations, Individuals, Groups, Dance Teams, Bands, and Churches are ALL invited to participate in the parade! Floats, Cars, trucks, ATVs, and golf carts are welcome! ALL Men are invited to participate in the 100 Men Unity March!”
Sunday, January 18
- BILOXI: Speaker Rev. William Barber at St. Paul United Methodist Church (696 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard), 3 p.m., part of MLK Coastwide Celebration
Monday, January 19 (MLK Day)
- BILOXI: MLK Jr. Parade, 10 a.m. in downtown Biloxi, followed by the Battle of the Bands at Doris C. Busch Park (645 Esters Boulevard), part of MLK Coastwide Celebration
- GULFPORT: MLK Day of Service Tree Planting Volunteer Event, volunteer training at 8:30 a.m., planting activities from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Brickyard Bayou Park (3317 Jeffrey Circle)
- PASCAGOULA: MLK Day of Service, building beds for Jackson County children in need — “to ensure every child has a place to dream,” presented by Sleep in Heavenly Peace Jackson County and the Rotary Clubs of Pascagoula, 8-11 a.m., Jackson County Fairgrounds (2902 Shortcut Road)
- PICAYUNE: Martin Luther King Day Celebration, presented by MLK of Picayune
- March beings at Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church (501 Weems Street) at 8 a.m. with coffee and donuts. March will end at the Mary Helen Richardson Community Center (780 South Beech Street), where a celebration will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m., with food, games, music and vendors.
Thursday, January 22
- BILOXI: MLK Celebration of Art & Culture, Ohr O’Keefe Museum of Art (886 Beach Boulevard), 5:30-7:30 p.m.
- “Explore fresh exhibitions, enjoy live music, and take in the campus with free admission as we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr... Plus, enjoy a special screening of the film Joys & Blues of East Biloxi Main Street. Free and open to the public!”
