BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - The sound of the blues will fill up Ground Zero Blues Club in Biloxi on Friday night when award-winning blues musician Ronnie Baker Brooks takes the stage.

Brooks, who was born into Chicago blues, is bringing his music to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for the first time in many years.

“Coming down here to play some blues for you guys,” Brooks said.

Brooks will be performing songs from his new album “Blues In My DNA,” which tells his story through 11 different songs. The title track won Song of the Year in 2025 from the Blues Music Awards in Memphis.

“Blues is my DNA. It started with my dad, the late great Lonnie Brooks, and he taught me. I’m just trying to add to the legacy,” he said.

Brooks has written over 200 songs and focuses on life experiences that resonate with audiences.

“I try to talk about real life and things that hit home, and people can feel, not just writing to be writing. I like to touch people in a good way,” he said.

Brooks said he is excited to perform in front of a crowd in South Mississippi.

“I always say the people are the boss. Whatever you bring, we’re going to triple that. If you bring good energy, we’re going to triple it,” Brooks said.
