PICAYUNE, Miss. (WLOX) - Picayune’s Krewe of the Pearl is busy this Mardi Gras season, with a parade Saturday and other events happening in the coming days.
On Saturday, the Krewe of the Pearl parade will roll through downtown Picayune.

The parade starts at 2 p.m. on Goodyear Boulevard, rolls toward Highway 11, then down W. Canal Street and Kirkwood Street, ending back where it started on Goodyear Boulevard.

This year’s theme is “Aloha From the Pearl.”
The parade will feature beautiful handcrafted oyster shell ornaments— the Krewe’s specialty throws— candy, chocolates, bags of chips, toys and beads.

The parade also features a decorated golf cart competition, with Champion Sports Bistreaux judging the best cart.
Pets, adopted dogs and shelter pups will also walk in the parade. Parade-goers who want to walk with their pet can dress themselves and their dogs in fun, aloha-themed Mardi Gras attire— leis, beads, and bright colors— and participate in the parade.
Meet at 1 p.m. across from St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. See rules and more information in Pearl River County SPCA’s Facebook post below.
The Krewe of the Pearl Mardi Gras ball will be held next Saturday, January 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hide-A-Way Lake Lodge. It’s open to everyone over 21, including non-members.
Tickets are $85 per person or $170 per couple. The ball includes the presentation of the court, a “sumptuous” five course buffet, dancing to DJ Faith, a portrait photographer and beverage set-ups.

Krewe of the Pearl is also hosting a Kids’ Shoebox Float Craft Day on February 7, from 1-4 p.m. at Crosby Memorial Library at 900 Goodyear Boulevard, Picayune.
Krewe of the Pearl was created in 2012 to “bring Mardi Gras to the citizens on Picayune,” according to the group’s Facebook page.
