BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - The Ohr O’Keefe Museum of Art will continue its celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy Thursday evening with a film screening and live music performance.
The event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the museum in Biloxi and features two screenings of “Joys and Blues of East Biloxi,” a documentary about the local Civil Rights Movement. Screenings are scheduled for 5:40 p.m. and 6:50 p.m.
“It tells the story of East Biloxi,” Ohr O’Keefe Museum of Art Development Director Amanda Wymer said. “It is such a wonderful film. It tells all the happy times and all the sad times.”
The documentary covers the Biloxi Wade-Ins and the Civil Rights Movement, while also highlighting the community’s positive aspects.
“The one great thing about this film is that it talks about the joys of growing up in East Biloxi. The tight-knit family community that they had and just how amazing it was in East Biloxi,” Wymer said.
