BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) — On Thursday, bleachers were out and barricades were in place, meaning Biloxi is ready for Mardi Gras.
This weekend brings two major parades, and the Biloxi Police Department (BPD) is bringing in reinforcements.

Lt. Candace Young of BPD said more than 100 law enforcement officers will be working the events.
“We have outside agencies coming to help us out,” Lt. Young said. “Between Biloxi and other agencies surrounding us, we’re going to have 109 officers working Neptune and 128 working Gulf Coast Carnival Association.”
You will see bus barricades blocking high-speed roads along the route.

This is the second year for the buses, a response to the New Year’s attack in New Orleans.
“Any time you have a large group of people packed so tight together, there’s always a possibility for something to happen,” Lt. Young said.

If you are going, police have some advice: Arrive early, expect delays and be patient.
“There’s always delays. There are always holdups,” Lt. Young said. “There’s always gaps in the parades as you know. If you come in with a patient mindset, you’re going to have a blast.”
Parade routes and a traffic plan can be found on the City of Biloxi’s website.
