GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - Memorial Hospital Gulfport held a Mardi Gras parade and box float contest on Thursday, with teams from various hospital departments creating their own decorated floats.

The event provided hospital employees with an opportunity to express their creativity in a profession that doesn’t often allow room for it.
Quality analyst Erica Baum said the contest also provided an opportunity to spend time with those she considers family.
“When I come to work, I like to feel like I’m at home with family and friends,” Baum said. “The culture along the Mississippi Gulf Coast is such that this hospital exemplifies family, and being here just makes our job fun.”

The event also included carnival classics such as king cake and music.
