MOSS POINT, Miss. (WLOX) - Moss Point native Daniel Stallworth performed in the Top 20 round of American Idol, performing the classic hit “All Night Long” as a tribute to judge Lionel Richie.

Back home, family and friends gathered for a watch party as Stallworth performed on the national stage.

Judges respond to Stallworth’s performance

Stallworth’s performance drew positive feedback from the judges.

Judge Lionel Richie was taken by surprise, saying, “You took that song and made it yours.”

Country star and judge Luke Bryan said Stallworth ‘might be the best singer in the competition.’

Family reacts to the performance

His parents, Dan Stallworth Jr. and Deborah Stallworth, shared their reaction to the performance.

“He is already our idol,” they said. “Whatever happens, it’s in God’s hands, but for this family, Daniel is already the winner.”

His oldest sister, Pamela Singleton, also spoke about watching her brother compete.

“To see him on stage, on TV, every Monday being a contestant on American Idol, I’m just so overwhelmed with joy,” Singleton said.

Stallworth and his family will find out if he advances to the Top 14 next Monday at 7 p.m. on WLOX ABC.

Voting for American Idol began at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 16, and closes at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17. The second window of voting for the Top 10 opens on Monday, March 23 and closes on Tuesday, March 24 at 5 a.m.
