KO OLINA, Hawai’i (WLOX) — American Idol contestant and Moss Point native Daniel Stallworth is moving one step closer to stardom after being voted through to the Top 11 on Monday night.

Stallworth took to the stage and sang It Ain’t Over ‘til It’s Over by Lenny Kravitz — one of three songs selected by the three judges for him to choose from for his next performance. The other two choices were Can We Talk by Tevin Campbell and I Want You Back by *NSYNC.

Despite the fact that Kravitz’s 1991 hit song was the only option Stallworth wasn’t familiar with, he chose it anyway. Luke Bryan, who selected the song for Stallworth, commended the decision and the performance afterwards.

“The fact that you didn’t really know that song and delivered it that way... I learned so much about you just then that you elevated to a different kind of person with that performance,” Bryan told Stallworth.

“I really wanted to hear you sing Can We Talk, but I love that you did step outside of what the norm might be for you,” said Carrie Underwood. “You really did your own thing with it, so I really respect that so much.”

“You know what you can’t teach? You can’t teach vibe. You’ve got a vibe,” said Lionel Richie. “When you grab the mic, you turn into who you’re supposed to be, and then you narrate it to the point where at one point, I forgot — is that Lenny or is that you?”
