GAUTIER, Miss. (WLOX) — The Sound Amphitheater kicked off its third season with a concert featuring American Idol winner and Mississippi native Jamal Roberts.
Concertgoers danced as the venue opened the season. The event marked the first time the city has hosted a concert at the amphitheater.
Gautier Mayor Casey Vaughan said the change allows for more variety in programming.
“It is paid for with tax payer dollars, so I feel like the venue should be able to be operated by a promoter and the city government. We can get a broader range of genre here at the Amphitheater,” Mayor Vaughan said.
Demuriel Thompson Cheers traveled from Galveston, Texas, to attend the concert with her aunt.

“I am loving the venue and everything I am seeing. I am truly satisfied. It was a long journey but well worth it,” Thompson Cheers said.
Every time gates open at The Sound is a new chance to leave a lasting impression. From the venue, to the artist and Gautier as a whole. Thompson Cheers recognized that and said she will remember this trip.
“Mississippi has got it going on. I will be coming back,” she said.
