MOSS POINT, Miss. (WLOX) — Moss Point kicked off a two-day River Jamboree 2026 Friday to celebrate the city’s 125th anniversary and the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Inside Moss Point City Hall, history lines the halls instead of paperwork after city leaders transformed the building into a temporary museum.

Filled with photographs and artifacts, the exhibit highlights the people and events that shaped Moss Point over 125 years.
The exhibit is part of the River Jamboree celebration happening this weekend, giving people a chance to celebrate Moss Point’s history in a new way.

Mayor Billy Knight said the event is about more than a party.

“We have got to pass this history on to our young people, because if you don’t remember where you came from, you know, you know, things that happened in a negative way seem to repeat itself. So I want them to know the good history of Moss Point,” Knight said.

Leaders also offered the first River City bus tour to visit its historic buildings.
Longtime resident and MAC bus CEO Tawanna McFarlin said the tour and exhibit brings back memories and gives people a chance to reflect on how Moss Point has changed.
“I am a proud resident of Moss Point, and I get to drive the community around the area, so I’m just excited to be a part of it,” McFarlin said. “If you look over here, they had what the prices were in 1924. I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t born in 1920, so it’s good to see a receipt and everything. So that was really good.”

Mayor Knight said he is fortunate to be a part of the city’s history and hopes people connect with its 125-year legacy.
