GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) — The Mississippi Gulf Coast Historical and Cultural Exposition will take place Friday and Saturday in Gulfport.

The free event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days at the Union Station Railroad Depot, located at 1419 27th Avenue.

William Sackett with the Gulfport History Museum said the event will showcase the history of Gulfport, Biloxi, and the Mississippi Coast.

“You’re going to find out about where you come from,” Sackett said. “And it’s very unique, the stories and the background of Gulfport, of Biloxi, and the Mississippi Coast.”

More than 20 vendors will participate in the exposition.

Aiden Graves with the Gulfport History Museum said the event offers a chance to learn local history not typically found in textbooks.

“We’re taught about national history. We’re taught about international history. It’s very hard to discover your own hometown’s history without actually being there and learning it from the people who know it the best,” Graves said.

Displays will include items brought by vendors as well as materials typically found in the museum.

Sackett said visitors will learn about the people, cultures, food, business growth, cities, and churches of the Gulf Coast.

The exposition will feature an antique car show and penguins from the Mississippi Aquarium. Organizers said the event is kid-friendly.
