LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) — The second annual Bikin’ the Beach rolled into the Long Beach Harper McCaughan Town Green, bringing riders from across the region for a three-day motorcycle event.

The free event features live entertainment daily, live bands nightly and stunt shows three times a day on Jeff Davis Avenue, said organizer Jason Stearman.

This year’s event centers around an America 250 freedom theme while raising money for Wounded Warriors of Mississippi and Tunnels to Towers, honoring veterans and their families.

“Everybody here has got a great attitude and believes in the same things and freedom and patriotism and motorcycles and having fun,” Stearman said. “We love that we can raise money for great causes while having fun at the same time.”

Riders said events like this help break old stereotypes surrounding the biker community.

“Sometimes people have a bad taste for bikers, but that’s everything in the past. That’s gone,” said Ricky Holland, a 30-year rider and participant. “You meet the best people on a motorcycle.”

This marks the event’s first year in Long Beach. Organizers said they plan to return.

“1,000 percent, we will be in Long Beach, year after year after year,” said organizer Jennifer Miller.

“Yeah, I’ll say Long Beach, Mississippi, is the new home of Bikin’ the Beach,” Stearman said.

Holland traveled from near Meridian for the weekend event.

“We just rode up for the weekend, and just see what this is about, and trying to get all my other guys in the bike club to start coming down here,” he said.

Vendors said the move to Long Beach has been good for business.

“Long Beach is great. We love it over here,” said Brittany Harrison of Brewed Barber Co.

“I’ve made as many connections here in the very first day in Long Beach than I do in a lot of other ones in the whole weekend,” said Talina Covert of The Texassippi Hippie.
