PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WLOX) — Pascagoula’s 120-year-old train depot is being transformed into a family-friendly brew pub as the Chandeleur Brew Pub at the Depot moves closer to opening.
“We’re so excited about the renovation and rebuilding of our historic train depot. And we’re afraid with how dilapidated it was that it wouldn’t be possible to rebuild but we had an investor and developer that came in and things are really looking great,” Pascagoula Mayor Jay Willis said.

The depot is one of the first sights visitors will see stepping off the train because of Amtrak’s Mardi Gras service.
“If you’re coming from Mobile or New Orleans or from along the coast to board a train, this is the stop for Amtrak. So I think that’s really important to have a great first impression for this community,” said Joe Cloyd, co-owner of Chandeleur Depot.

Food and beer
The brew pub will become Chandeleur Brewing Company’s second coastal location and will feature beer brewed on-site.

“We know we’re going to have great beer. We also need to bring great food to the table. And we’re excited about the collaboration with Sumralls,” Cloyd said.

Chef Austin Sumrall, owner of White Pillars and Siren Social Club, is creating the menu.
“There was a few things where we kind of wanted to have some crossover between here and White Pillars. The Korean barbecue pork belly is one of our most popular dishes there. So we wanted to have like a little like kind of ode to that,” Sumrall said.

Owners said families are a major focus, with plans for a game room and kid-friendly atmosphere.
“We do want to cater to families here in Pascagoula and give them an outlet where the adults and the children can both come and have fun in their own way,” Cloyd said.

Courtyard and green space planned
City leaders are planning a courtyard and green space along Railroad Avenue with picnic tables, sidewalks and additional parking for Amtrak riders.
The project will also add landscaping, stamped concrete, stormwater upgrades and a parking lot near Frederic Street.
“This area where we’re going to close the portion of the road between the train depot and Dr. Sutton’s office building and turn that into a public area that everyone will be welcome to use and to come and have a great place to sit and visit or lunch or adult beverage. And it’s going to be great,” Willis said.

Leaders said the improvements will help transform the depot area into a more welcoming space for visitors and the local community while continuing the revitalization of downtown Pascagoula.
