WIGGINS, Miss. (WLOX) — Two Fat Friends, a vintage market in Wiggins, starts each day with staff checking books for inventory.
The 8,000-square-foot market opened in April 2016 and features dozens of vendors, with 85% of the inventory classified as vintage.
“We have furniture, we have kitchen items, we have Pyrex, we have Tupperware, man cave items, some animal skins, some jewelry, we have a variety of items, pretty much everything but the kitchen sink, but once in a while we have the kitchen sink,” said Whitley Switzer, store manager.
Owner Shelly Newman said the store uses bookshelves as a starting point for new vendors.
“This is usually where we start when someone wants to try a booth space who has never done it before,” Newman said. “It’s a good place to try something small and see if what you have fits for what the store does and see if it’s for you.”

The market also includes a vendor who specializes in children’s décor and toys.
“So moms come in, and it keeps the babies busy. They pick up something and play with it while they are here, and then take care of it at the register when they leave. There’s something fun for everyone,” Newman said.
Switzer said the business experiences fluctuations like any other retail operation.
“We have events frequently. We just had a Mother’s Day event, and we’re already prepping for Father’s Day. We have an event pretty much monthly,” Switzer said. “Like any other business, there are bills to pay, taxes to pay, but it’s the customers and vendors that make it all worthwhile.”
The market has grown from 20 vendors at opening to at least 50 or more currently.

The name Two Fat Friends came from the original owners, who wanted something unique and memorable. The market initially opened once a month but now operates Thursday through Sunday.
Two Fat Friends is located at 1950 Highway 49 in Wiggins.
