Do Portugal Circus brings high-flying acts to South Mississippi

LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) — The Do Portugal Circus will open Thursday night for a four-day run in Long Beach.

The circus is set up across the street from Steve’s Marina. The first show begins at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 11, and performances continue through Sunday.

Jodie Leith, the circus ringmaster, said the show features acts on the ground and in the air, including dancers, juggling and acrobatics.

“Some absolutely amazing acts. Expect the unexpected,” Leith said. “All your traditional circus acts, but expect so much more.”

The circus also includes a human cannonball act.

“Not a lot of people do this. It is very dangerous, and it’s something that will blow you away,” Leith said.

The Do Portugal family is a fifth-generation circus family.

“Doing this is what they love. It’s what they are born to do. They travel around the world,” Leith said.

After the Long Beach run, the circus will move to Biloxi. Performances will run Thursday, June 18 through Sunday, June 21 across from Harrah’s on Highway 90.

Tickets can be purchased online.
