BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) — The Biloxi Shuckers are hosting a “Christmas in July” night on Saturday, with Santa Claus scheduled to throw out the first pitch and a Toys for Tots donation drive on site.

Gates open at 5 p.m., with first pitch at 6:05 p.m.

Toys for Tots Gulf Coast Coordinator Dr. Shira Stallworth said attendees can visit a table at the stadium to see Santa and donate an unwrapped toy.

“It {Toys for Tots} takes care of the families that are in need during the Christmas season, and also those that won’t say they need anything,” Stallworth said.

At the game, volunteers will also distribute pencils, coloring books, and other school supplies to children.

The team will celebrate the season with a Shuckers-themed ugly sweater replica jersey giveaway for the first 1,000 fans.

The Shuckers will also wear specialty ugly Christmas sweater jerseys during the game.

Santa told WLOX that he has been practicing at Gautier High School’s baseball field ahead of the event.

“Making the baseballs and all the products is easy for the elves, but actually using them, well, that is not something I do a lot of,” Santa said.

Saint Nick said he plans additional practice sessions before Saturday’s game, where the Shuckers will take on the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
