PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. (WLOX) — Cyclists competed in the fifth annual Bikes & Beaches Time Trial in Pass Christian, racing against the clock along a 10-mile course on Highway 90.
The event, organized by the Gulf Coast Bicycle Club, drew riders of varying skill levels from across the region.
“Everybody is welcome”
55 cyclists competed in this year’s time trial, an event Gulf Coast Bicycle Club president David Lalejini says is built for everyone.
“We have folks that may be going 12 miles an hour, all the way up to 30 miles an hour,” Lalejini said. “Everybody is welcome; you don’t have to be a semi-pro to come out and do our time trial.”
Lalejini has ridden the course for four years, and says the fact that cyclists travel in from across the region shows the club is building more than just a race.

“They’re coming out, and they’re kind of growing into the cycling community and enjoy it, and that means they’re going to ride more and they’re going to be healthier,” he said.
Husband and wife take on first time trial
LaPlace, Louisiana, residents Jennifer and James Falterman participated in their first-ever time trial together at the event.
“Riding along Highway 90 with the Gulf breeze and the scenery, it was much different than what I’m used to back home,” Jennifer Falterman said.
James Falterman said the shared experience was a motivating factor.
“It’s special, you know, riding together. It helps keep us fit, and that’s what it’s all about; trying to stay in shape and, you know, coming out and enjoying the day, spending the day together,” he said.

For Jennifer Falterman, it was a reminder that the cycling community shows up, every mile of the way, no matter the pace.
“They welcome you with open arms, and it was a great first time doing a time trial,” she said.

The Gulf Coast Bicycle Club’s next event is the 4-Spoke Century, scheduled for Aug. 22 at the Success Community Center in Harrison County.
