Under the sea: Mermaids swimming to the Mississippi Aquarium in coming months

GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) — Mermaids from all over the world are coming soon to the Mississippi Aquarium to visit South Mississippi.

Mermaid Kai made her journey from the Caribbean a little earlier than her other mermaid sisters.

She says they look forward to having all the kids meet them under the sea and teaching them about their adventures.

“So my sea sisters and I will be swimming in the exhibit,” Mermaid Kai said. “And there will also be someone out here on meet-and-greet to welcome kids, say hi, take a photo. And in the exhibit, they can get nice and close to the glass and we’ll be blowing bubble kisses at them.”

Learning about the environment under the sea

Mermaid Kai also said this is a chance for the mermaids to teach kids the importance of environmental impacts and how to keep our waters clean.

“It’s really magical to see the sparkle in their eyes and help inspire them to become ocean guardians,” Mermaid Kai said. “It’s really nice to do really simple things like use your reusable water bottles and also bring reusable bags to the grocery store to help keep plastics out of my home.”
