GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) — The Ship Island Excursions ferry departed from Gulfport Harbor Thursday at 9 a.m., with a busy Labor Day weekend ahead.
The Capt. Pete vessel went through some repairs after a fire broke out in the engine room last month.

Now, the Coast Guard has given the OK for the Capt. Pete to head south.
During Ship Island Excursions’ 100th season, crowds were expected to be heavy.

Capt. Louis Skrmetta said that Labor Day weekend is the last big one before the season begins to wind down.

“The boat ride is a wonderful experience,” Capt. Skrmetta said. “We are going to see dolphins — every trip we see dolphins. [We] just invite people to come out and make sure they know we are running every day through the end of October.”
