GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) — The 17th annual View the Cruise event happens this weekend, and with the weather forecast not looking promising, Gulfport Main Street and business owners in the downtown area are thinking of any way to stop the rain from coming in.
When they found out about an old wives’ tale of burying a hot dog to deter bad weather, those involved figured they would give it a try.
“We have put a lot of hard work into this weekend that’s coming up, and we will do just about anything to keep the rain away. So, if it’s burying a hot dog, that’s what it is,” Lisa Ashley, owner of Main Street Downtown Nutrition, said.
“Even if it doesn’t work, rain or shine, downtown Gulfport is open, and View the Cruise is happening rain or shine. We may make some adjustments to our Saturday concert, but Sunday is rolling, and all the businesses are ready,” Kristen Garriga, the executive director of Gulfport Main Street, said.

Those involved said burying the hot dog will become an annual tradition.
