GAUTIER, Miss. (WLOX) — Cars from the 1940s, ’50s, ’60s, ’70s and beyond filled the Town Commons at Gautier’s Cruisin’ Through the Decades, including Chevelles, Volkswagens and Bel Airs.

“I have a blueprint 350 engine,” said Boris Williams of Frisco, Texas.

For many owners, the stories behind the vehicles go beyond paint and chrome.

Williams drove nine hours from Frisco, Texas, in his 1972 C10 pickup to attend the event, which has brought classic car lovers to Gautier since it started in 2017.

“What’s special about it is that I built it in my little three-car garage in Frisco, Texas,” Williams said.

Williams said his father taught him everything he knows.

“He helped me build my first ’68 Chevelle, and I’ve still been doing it over 30 years later,” Williams said.

Williams said he has been coming to Cruisin’ for more than a decade. He said his favorite part is listening to others share memories about their cars.

“It’s more than just cars. It’s a personal connection, and that’s what you’ve got to love about it,” Williams said.

For Linda Adamo, a 1950s GMC truck brings back memories of her husband, Eddie, who died in 2021.

“My late husband purchased it many years ago, and he tinkered with it throughout the years. And he wound up with cancer, and so he didn’t get to complete it before he passed away,” Adamo said.

Adamo said the restoration was finally completed in 2023.

“I had it completed. My son-in-law completed it for me, and on my back windshield, I have a picture of my husband in loving memory of him. And I drive it in his honor to keep his memory alive,” Adamo said.

Williams said he has attended car events across the country, but nothing compares to Cruisin’ the Coast.

“I actually got a chance to go to Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. It was totally awesome. It still does not beat Cruisin’ the Coast. The people you meet all around the country willing to drive their cars through from Bay St. Louis to Gulfport to Biloxi — I mean, it’s the most fun ever,” Williams said.
