HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) — There’s a place not that far away where you can enjoy fun on the farm. The family running Green Acres Creamery is doing their part to create lasting memories during the fall.

“It’s a good chance to get connected to see how things are made, how things come from the animals and earth and have a good time,” said Marcus Butler, the parent of a North Bay Elementary student.
“I didn’t get a chance to do this when I was a kid,” said Chris Norwood, the parent of another North Bay Elementary student. “It’s just an awesome experience with the wildlife and everything. This ice cream is amazing as well.”
April Bond and her husband Kevin opened their farm to visitors a few years ago. They welcome school groups during the week and the public on weekends in the fall.

“Our goal when we walk out here on the weekend is to look around and see every person, whether they are young or old, doing something,” said April. “I don’t want to see any phones out. I want to see all of them interacting and doing activities. We have succeeded in that. If you come out here on a Saturday and look around, every family is active doing something.”

There’s plenty to do on the Bonds’ “Back Forty,” such as hayrides, petting animals, jumping and even milking a cow.

“Our goal is to add something every year,” said April. “We started out with the petting area and a few little attractions, and we have over 30 attractions now.”
The Bonds still run their 100+ acre dairy farm full time. The fall activities are extra work on top of it.
“We dairy seven days a week, and then to add this on top of it makes it a pretty good challenge,” said Kevin.
The challenge is worth it — especially when they see the smiles on the faces of children while they’re learning about the farm.

“For some [students], this is the first time that they’re really getting to experience being around animals, being around the farm and an atmosphere like that,” said North Bay Elementary instructional coach Kady Wolf. “They’re really getting to learn how things come about and have fun while they’re doing it. It’s a great day for them to get outside, get some energy all out all while they learn at the same time.
Everything happens on land April’s grandfather first started raising dairy cows on 70 years ago.
“I would love to see the look on my grandfather’s face to see what we have going on,” said April. “Even with my daddy, it shocks him every day seeing the people that come back here.”
