GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) — Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is hosting its annual fall festivals this week at its Harrison County and Jackson County campuses.
Justin Mills, Dean of Students at the Harrison County campus, said the college has been preparing for the event.
“We are really excited about the fall festivals,” Mills said. “We’re looking forward to welcoming all of those families to our campus.”
Dr. Ryan Upshaw, of the Jackson County campus, said the event is open to the entire community, not just students and their families.
“We’ve been really promoting this, making sure that all of our community members know that they can come out, have a nice, fun, safe environment to bring their kids out,” Upshaw said.

The events will include food trucks, local businesses and other groups, including fire and police departments.
“Just to really show people that this is a major community event,” Upshaw said.
Costumes are encouraged and are a major part of the event.
“We’ll be dressed up. We’re excited about it. We love to see the costumes out there for this event,” Upshaw said.
Faculty, staff, and students will also lead activities known as trunks, some for fun and some educational.

“Our STEM club is going to do some experiments with kids and kind of show them a little bit about that,” Upshaw said.
The event is free and open to the public Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at either the Harrison County or Jackson County campuses.
The Harrison County campus is located at 2226 Switzer Road in Gulfport. The Jackson County campus is located at 2300 Highway 90 in Gautier.
