PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WLOX) — The Pascagoula Fire Department held its second annual Stop, Drop & Scream Halloween event Thursday.
Haunted house and activities
A haunted house was a main attraction, with families lining up to go inside. A no-scare option was available for people who did not want the scares.
Fire Marshal Ryan Doswell said children could also explore fire trucks and an ambulance and get candy.
Meeting first responders
Doswell said the event gives the community a chance to meet firefighters outside of an emergency.
“No one calls 911 on their best day, so this allows people to get to meet us in a not-so-serious environment and see what we’re about and see what we can, you know, what we provide and, you know, come hang out,” Doswell said.

Doswell said the event is a chance for families to have a free night of Halloween fun while getting to know the first responders who serve their community.
Attendee reactions
Attendees shared their experiences at the event.
“It was fun. There was chainsaws right over there. So, when I went in, there was like a ghost,” one attendee said.
“We went last year. It was a lot of fun,” another attendee said.
A third attendee said, “I just knew that there would be a lot of my classmates.”
