Behind the Business: Clary & Sage Apothecary

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WLOX) - One unique business in Ocean Springs, Clary & Sage Apothecary, got its official start during the COVID-19 pandemic and was able to flourish and grow.

“We started in the trunk of the car, and we did that for a few months. Then we found a small space in Pascagoula in a shop that had different booth vendors. Then, we had our own space down the street on Market Street,” said Owner Brandi St. Cyr.

After four years, Clary & Sage Apothecary moved to Ocean Springs, sharing space with Downtown Yoga.

St. Cyr said yoga goes hand and hand with her business, and she even provides yoga books. In addition, everything that makes up Clary & Sage Apothecary is aimed at healing in some way.

“Right now, we have 50 herbs,” said St. Cyr. “Different herbs help with different ailments, and you can make them into teas, make them into tinctures, and salves. There are so many different things.”

Clary & Sage Apothecary also offers pre-mixes, grab-and-go’s, oils, and crystals.

St. Cyr said many people are unaware of the extensive research that goes into owning and operating an apothecary shop. That’s why she believes it’s important to educate individuals on each product.

“Because of the uniqueness of my business, it is very important that we educate because the space is not what people think it is. They automatically think that it is this dark cave-like space, and it is not,” said St. Cyr.

“To explain how you do things, and this is what it is called, this is why this crystal and how the science of it works. There are a lot of scientific studies to back up the herbs and crystals and oils, and things like that.”

St. Cyr said her business has helped many hunt for an alternative practice for healing.

Clary & Sage Apothecary is located at 1010 Porter Avenue, Suite B, in Ocean Springs.
