Coast Life: Celebration of custom vehicles, Scrapin the Coast returns
BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) — This weekend, Scrapin the Coast takes over.
“It’s pretty much the funnest weekend along the Coast every year,” said Allen Cole.
Scrapin the Coast gives Cole a place to show off one of the many cars he’s pieced together and built the old-fashioned way.
“It’s a 1930 real steel Henry Ford Model A,” said Cole. “It has the original frame; it’s all built to be a traditional hot rod from the 60s.”

Every year, Cole is the first person Scrapin promoting partner Ronny Tolar sees when he arrives to open the event.
“Mr. Allen is our honorary family member because he’s literally here before the show even starts,” said Tolar. “Before I even get on property, he’s already set up.”

Cole claims the same spot every year on the corner of the Coliseum entrance right off Highway 90. From there, he can check out every hot rod, low rider and tricked-out vehicle that rolls through.
“You see everybody from kids with unfinished trucks to over-the-top quarter-million-dollar rides and everybody is talking,” said Cole.

Despite the name, Scrapin the Coast isn’t just about cars riding low. In its 24 years, Scrapin has grown into a celebration of custom vehicles of every style.
“It’s a section of everything from jacked-up, to low rider, to bagged, to static drop, to cambered cars, imports, tuners... It’s all here,” said Cole.
“The only thing here that people don’t like are stocked vehicles, everybody here is into a customized vehicle,” said Tolar.

Each vehicle on display at the Coast Coliseum features its own flair and unique touch.
“It’s expression, you come out here and it’s somebody’s impression of what they thought the car ought to be,” said Tolar.
As always, Allen Cole will have a front-row seat during his favorite weekend.
“After Thursday evening, my wife won’t see me until Monday,” said Cole.
Scrapin the Coast starts Friday with registration and check-in.
A full schedule of activities runs all day Saturday; the event wraps up Sunday with awards at 3 p.m. Find more information HERE.
