Gulfport Sportsplex to transform into “Swiftplex” for Taylor Swift album release

GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - Swifties in South Mississippi are ready for it— the release of Taylor Swift’s 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl." On Friday, October 3, the Gulfport Sportsplex will transform into the ‘Swiftplex’ for the release.

Some fans say it’s been a cruel summer waiting, but now it’s time to shake it off.

“We’re turning the Sportsplex into the Swiftplex,” said marketing manager George “Chuck” Patterson.

"Swiftplex: A Fan Celebration" is where fans of all ages can come together under the starlight to sing, dance, and relive the eras that defined a generation. Plans are in place for it to be the best day.

The event includes friendship bracelet-making stations, cookie decorating, karaoke, trivia to test if you know Taylor all too well, and a photo booth, so you can make the whole place shimmer.

There will also be a costume contest, where you can dress as your favorite era and show you’re fearless. Whether you’re dancing in a storm in your best dress from Speak Now, rocking red, channeling 1989 with style, showing off your reputation, or going full evermore cottagecore, the night belongs to all the eras.

Of course, the playlist will include all of Taylor Swift’s hit songs, from the vault tracks to the classics.

“We’re pretty sure that a lot of Swifties all over the world, all over the country, are tuning in and making sure that they are up on all the new music,” said Patterson.

The Gulfport Sportsplex is known for baseball and softball tournaments, but Patterson said the team is excited to do something different. This time, the field will be covered in glitter, sequins, and sparks flying.

“We’ve got a lot of glitter and sequins that we’re bringing into the property, but it’s been fun to do something different, and we’re open to doing many more events like this,” said Patterson.
