Behind the Business: Pristine Media Productions
GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - In this week’s Behind the Business, we’re turning the tables on one business owner who’s usually behind the camera.
After changing career paths and taking a leap of faith into a new industry, the owner of Pristine Media Productions is now busier than ever—but instead of feeling overwhelmed, he is finding more joy in their work.
“I’m really loving what I do,” said Corey Crockett.
It’s Crockett’s love, drive, and faith that have pushed him to channel his inner gift through the lens of photography and videography.
“Pristine Media is my baby, I feel like I birthed it myself,” said Crockett. “I started back in January of this year, and it has really taken off.”
From campaign trails to podcasts, fitness, and even churches, Crockett has been granted opportunities to capture moments that have elevated his business to the next level.
“What I really love are the types of jobs I’m getting. I didn’t really know which direction I wanted to go in, so I didn’t put myself in a box. Some people just do weddings, and it works. Some people just do sports, and it works, but I’m open,” said Crockett.
“I keep myself open, so now I have coaches calling me. I have people calling me for weddings. I just did a podcast last night.”
However, it was not in Crockett’s plans to be an entrepreneur, let alone do any kind of camera work.
“I went to college for computer science and business, so I never thought I would be behind a camera. But it’s just amazing how God works. I feel like God gives us gifts—there are gifts inside of us—and we just have to tap into them."
Crockett got into videography and photography after joining the media team at a local church.
“I started back at Empowerment Ministries Christian Center,” said Crockett.
Crockett encourages others to take a leap of faith if they are considering changing careers.
“I did start off for 10 years working for the Air Force and the Post Office. It was scary to take that leap of faith and leave those positions. Those are good jobs with good benefits and a good retirement,” said Crockett.
“I wouldn’t advise anyone up and leave their job without a plan and income already coming in. If you can make the sacrifice when you get off work, start structuring what you want and start building it while you’re working. So when you do make that transition, you’ve already built it and it’s rolling and now you’re just stepping into it.”
Crockett has since added editors to his team at Pristine Media to help balance the workload and demand for services. Some of his major current projects involve the Boys and Girls Club and the West Harrison High School football team.
